Subject: RE: Xielolixii> Re: [Native California Indians] Is an Indian Really and Indian?
:Let me preface this by saying for the record, that I am an indigenous Salinan from the Counties of Monterey, SLO, south to Santa Barbara on my mother's side and Taino, from Borikén (Puerto Rico).
I can certainly understand where you are coming from and many of us have evolved to a better understanding of who we are and why we are here. But first we have to shed this thought of controlling our Mother; She has no boundaries. Only WE put them here.
We were put in our place of origin, by Creator so our DNA is there and will always be there. We were also given in the beginning certain rules to live by and I think this is what is being discussed here. Protocols and being initiated to do ceremonies are some of the primary teachings and are now some of the concerns, since so many are instant 'shamans' and prophets but have no trail of teachings/fireplaces they can say were their guides to this plateau.
That being said, those protocols need to be adhered to as a human courtesy to approach those who have existed in a given area, since their inception on this planet and have lived many lives in said regions until their job contract is/was completed.
By the same token, those of us who are still here, we need to come to realization that we are not alone. We have a connection to each and every human and are within the grid of life and humanness, thus connected to all life forms and we need to respect those laws that apply to all living things, so that our ceremonies will be complete and fruitful.
Respect is one of the most neglected components of our lives, because of what we're taught and view in this time period. Ego is prominent in trying to define who we are. If we could just realize that we are ONE with All That Is, then we could let go and expand our consciousness. But we're stuck, dwelling on the power that we think we have with our titles, positions, more stuff, and ethnic backgrounds. If we could at least respect others and their views with tolerance, we could then LEARN from each other. But first these protocols need to be honored.
We cannot just cut down a tree or a plant without asking permission and presenting an offering, then why do we go around positioning ourselves without doing the same to the Elders of those locations? I look up to them, even though I'm 70 years old -->some say my name is "Two Days Older Than Dirt :-) And I admire them -- many times I see them, just sitting by and not saying anything, watching us screw things up, fully knowing that we did not go through the protocols because of the way we walk our path.
Without doing these primary steps, we loose the ability to connect with the primary elements that exist. We just plop ourselves down and establish ourselves - totally oblivious to the Elders and Ancient Ones around us, going merrily on our way and eventually falling on our path --- why? Because we fail to do what we are supposed to do.
It is the same if I said I love you - and then you show up at my door step, walk into my home, take what you want, make a mess, shower, and sleep in my bed without my permission, without me knowing, is tantamount to thievery. And this is what some of our people are concerned with. To just walk into someone's 'territory/DNA' and just take over using ones own ways to govern, and teach others that 'this is the way', then I think we have really missed what is important.
We need to respect the Elders of this land. To humble ourselves as we do when we enter the Lodge, and see if we can assist and co-exist with one another. To do anything else would be the same level as what the invaders did by erecting their places of worship and insisting that their way is the only way.
I'm not saying that Natives from another location, are doing this, but this is what the groundwork is doing - creating a system that locks out those who should rightfully share in the teachings and guidance. The DNA that is here is different than in another location. I know this from experience when I dance barefoot on the land of my Ancestors, the connection is way different. Here's a not so good analogy, but nonetheless: It's like being plugged into the wall versus an extension. Many appliances specify that it should be plugged into a direct connection rather than an extension. WE from our own areas only desire to have what is ours and nothing more or less -- what is it? The right to be asked to share in collaboration with what your dreams are.
I know from speaking with some of the Elders who's DNA are from the Sacramento area say they were never asked about permissions to have the sweats or any other ceremony there and yet I've heard otherwise from those who put up these places of worship/healings.
So my suggestion is that we make a concerted effort to include the peoples from this area to participate into what already is their birthright. Those who are enlightened will be honored and will unite with those who are walking a good path.
I believe in my heart because I know both of these parties that are concerned about the sweats, etc., that they can co-exist and co-create a modality that is in the best interest of all concerned. This is the prayer I will pray to this end.
